1. Who we are

"Leaving The Matrix" (the Service) is operated by Unycross LLC, a Michigan-registered company owned by Luke Vasilion ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use leavingthematrix.io, the Nova members area at nova.leavingthematrix.io, our Discord community, and our email newsletter — and what we do with that information.

If you have questions about this policy or any data we hold about you, contact us at luke@leavingthematrix.io.

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on which parts of the Service you use.

2.1 Newsletter ("Free Your Mind")

When you subscribe to our free newsletter, we collect your email address and the signup source (which page on the site you subscribed from). We send a one-time confirmation email to verify the address belongs to you (double-opt-in). After confirmation, you receive weekly newsletter emails until you unsubscribe.

2.2 Membership accounts (Nova members area)

When you create a paid membership account, we collect:

  • Your email address and any profile information you provide to Clerk (our authentication provider)
  • A tier flag reflecting your active subscription state (free / pro / lapsed)
  • A Stripe customer ID linking your account to your billing record
  • Subscription metadata from Stripe (plan, status, current period end, cancellation flag)

We do not directly collect or store your payment card information. Card details are entered on Stripe's hosted checkout and remain with Stripe; we only receive a tokenized customer reference.

2.3 Discord community

Membership in our Discord community is governed by Discord's own privacy policy. We see the public profile information you choose to share with the server (username, avatar, roles). We do not record or store private messages exchanged in the server.

2.4 Site usage

Our hosting providers (AWS Amplify and Vercel) automatically log standard server-side request data (IP address, user agent, referring URL, timestamps) for security and performance purposes. We do not currently run additional analytics tools beyond these provider-level logs. If we add analytics in the future (e.g., Plausible, Fathom), we will update this policy to disclose the tool and what it collects.

2.5 Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses a small number of cookies, none for advertising or cross-site tracking:

  • Authentication cookies set by Clerk to keep you signed into the members area
  • Functional cookies for session management on payment flows

You can disable cookies in your browser, but doing so will prevent you from signing in to the members area.

3. How we use your information

  • To deliver the newsletter you subscribed to
  • To create and manage your membership account
  • To process subscription payments and renewals
  • To grant access to gated content, the Discord community, and the Nova members area
  • To respond to questions you send us
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms
  • To comply with applicable laws

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Service providers we use

We rely on a small number of trusted third-party providers to run the Service. Each receives only the information they need to perform their function:

  • Clerk — user authentication and account management
  • Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing
  • Neon — encrypted database storage for account and subscription state
  • Resend — transactional and newsletter email delivery
  • Discord — community chat platform (governed by Discord's own privacy policy)
  • AWS Amplify — hosting for leavingthematrix.io
  • Vercel — hosting for the Nova members area

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them; links are available on request.

5. How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter subscribers: we keep your email until you unsubscribe; unsubscribed records are retained for compliance auditing for up to 24 months and then deleted.
  • Member accounts: we keep account and subscription records for the life of your account plus 7 years after account deletion (to meet financial-record retention obligations).
  • Server logs: rotated by our hosting providers per their default retention windows (typically 30–90 days).

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and personal information ("right to be forgotten")
  • Withdraw consent (e.g., unsubscribe from the newsletter)
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email luke@leavingthematrix.io from the address associated with your account or subscription. We respond within 30 days.

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA / CPRA. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

7. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 16 (or under 13 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

8. International data transfers

Our service providers may store and process data in the United States and other jurisdictions. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses and other safeguards to protect data in transit.

9. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted database storage, hashed authentication tokens, and the principle of least privilege for internal access. No system is perfectly secure, however. If we ever experience a breach affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. Material changes will be communicated via the email address on your account (for members) and posted at the top of this page with a new effective date.
